We understand that there are occasional unavoidable incidents which cause parents to be late collecting their children but when these occur more regularly, there is an impact on staffing ratios and after 6pm, an invalidation of the nursery insurance policy. This imposes on the private lives of staff, past the end of their working day. Children may also become distressed or concerned that they have not been collected after everyone else has left. It is therefore very important that children are collected on time at the end of each session.
Our procedure for the late collection of children is as follows:
- If a child remains uncollected five minutes after the designated pick-up time, the senior nursery staff member present will use the supplied contact numbers, to contact the parent/carer.
- If the parent/carer cannot be contacted, additional emergency numbers will be attempted.
- If no contact can be made, the senior nursery staff member and one additional member of staff will stay on the premises until the child is collected or alternative arrangements can be made.
- In the event of no contact being made thirty minutes after the designated pick-up time and if the nursery staff are unable to make contact themselves, the person in charge will ring The Children’s Resource Service Emergency Duty Team and advise them of the situation.
- Where parents / carers have been contacted and have confirmed they are coming to collect their child, parents will be signed out with the exact departure time on Famly.
- If this is the first time a parent / carer has been late or in exceptional circumstances, no further action will be taken.
- For any further incidents of late collection, a charge of £20 will be levied for late collection up to the first 20 minutes.
- If the parent / carer has not collected the child after 20 minutes without reasonable explanation, a further charge of £5 will be incurred for every additional 5 minutes taken.
- Manager to use their discretion in regards to continual late collection which may enforce a late collection charge.
- Payment of the late collection penalty will be added to the child’s account.
