This Policy summarises the arrangements and measures for the management of First Aid in the Nursery:
- It is policy within the Nursery that a trained First Aider is present on each staff Additionally, all other staff will have a working knowledge of basic First Aid procedures through appropriate training.
- A trained first aider must accompany any children when out on outings/trips.
- Pediatric First Aid (PFA) training must be renewed every 3
- A list of all those with a PFA certificate must be displayed or available to parents on
- All staff who obtained a level 2 and/or 3 since June 2016, must obtain a PFA qualification within 3 months of starting work in order to be included in the required level 2 & 3 ratio requirements.
- In the event of a child or staff member sustaining slight injury as a result of an accident then minor First Aid treatment should be administered and relevant forms completed in full.
- The location of all first aid kits in the nursery must be known by all staff. The contents of these kits will conform to the provisions of the First Aid Regulations, 1981, and will be checked on a monthly basis by the nursery manager and replenished as The Contents Check of First Aid Box Form will be completed on each occasion. (This can be found on the intranet in the manager and deputy folder.)

- If immediate first aid does not resolve the problem then the person concerned should be referred as follows:
- Staff members & Visitors - refer to the Accident & Emergency Department of the nearest
- Child the nursery manager will inform the child’s parents / guardians / carers using emergency contact numbers to advise them of the situation, and the need for medical treatment. Depending upon the outcome of these discussions the nursery manager may call for a GP or summon an emergency ambulance, at their discretion.
- Staff members who treat visitors must first obtain their consent and are reminded that they are professionally accountable for their own actions and are not acting for or on behalf of the
- Any serious accidents must be reported to senior management team Operations and Group manager will report any reportable incidents to Ofsted and/or RIDDOR.
