Introduction

The company is required to have a Fire Policy under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO)

The primary objectives of the policy are:

Responsibilities

As the Executive Director, Nicholas Ralph is responsible where appropriate, for ensuring that current fire legislation is met, they are known as the responsible person for this document. Appropriate fire safety policies and programmes of work are to be in place to improve and maintain fire precautions within the premises.

The responsible person is to ensure that they have appropriate assurance that the requirements of current fire safety legislation are met and has appointed Joseph Wright to be the Fire Safety Officer for Paint Pots to ensure that this is the case. The responsible person is to ensure required investments for fire precautions are included in the annual business plan.

The manager will undertake fire warden training and be the Senior Fire Warden for the setting taking responsibility for supervising the day-to-day fire precautions within their premises and ensuring that all staff understand the procedures and receive regular fire training.

All staff that undertake Fire Warden training must understand the responsibility they have in the absence of the setting manager and/or deputy and be competent to act accordingly in an emergency. It is the setting’s Senior Fire Warden responsibility to ensure that if they are absent from the setting that another staff member has carried out in date training and happy to be held accountable.

The Policy

The following items detail our considerations as required under the legislation:

Organising

We must appoint a sufficient number of competent persons to assist with undertaking the preventative and protective measures required under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO 2005.) In addition, where more than one is appointed, arrangement must be made for ensuring adequate co-operation between them.

These staff will be known at Paint Pots, as Fire Wardens and are named in the fire safety folder. a. Paint Pots will implement appropriate arrangement for the effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of the preventative and protective measures. In addition, the Fire Safety Officer must record these arrangements. b. Paint Pots will obligate and enable line management to implement the fire safety arrangements put in place. (Care should be taken to develop their competence in the fire safety management and co-ordinate their effort. Roles should be clearly defined in writing and adequate arrangements need to be put in place to ensure consultation with employees on matters of fire safety.) These will be carried out through a job description, monthly manager meetings, audits and supervisions.
