Introduction to Famly

All children attending Paint Pots Nursery have a personal on-line Learning Journey which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. Paint Pots uses an online Learning Journey system called Famly, a system, which is hosted on secure servers.

Each child will be allocated a key person who will be responsible for the compilation of their record. The key person must ensure that each of their key children have a photo for the profile. Observations will be completed either on a laptop or on an app via tablets which will be based in the rooms.

Observations must be completed by all members of staff for all children and not just their key children. When a child starts at Paint Pots they will be registered with Famly within the period of their settling sessions and their parents and carers will be sent registration details.

Each setting has a senior member of staff who is dedicated to moderating Famly. It will be their responsibility to work with the manager to approve observations and mark them as viewable for parents. The member of staff will check the quality and quantity of the observations, links to the EYFS and characteristics of effective learning.

Tracking from Famly is moderated to monitor children’s development. Reflections and action plans are put in place ensure that all children are making progress.

Safeguarding

The Famly online learning journey and nursery management software system is hosted on secure dedicated servers. Access to information stored on Famly can only be gained through the use of a unique user ID and password. Parents and relatives can only see their child’s information and are unable to login to view other children’s learning journeys.

Parents are asked to sign a consent form giving permission for their child’s image to appear in other children’s learning journeys, and to protect images of other children that may appear in any photos contained in their child’s learning journey. It will be the responsibility of the person moderating to ensure that children who are part of group observations and photos have parental permission to do so. Any photos or observations that include children whose details are not able to be shared will be deleted and not used in any person’s records.

All members of staff are required to sign in and out of the setting via an authorised device at the beginning and end of their shift. (This is also a safeguarding requirement and failure to sign in and out may result in disciplinary action.)

All staff members who are not managers should only access their Famly staff account through an authorised electronic device belonging to the nursery such as a tablet or laptop during work hours unless permission has been given from a manager. Failure to adhere to this may result in disciplinary action.

Tablets will be held within the nursery and should not be removed.
