Welcome to Paint Pots. We are pleased to have you joining the team.

Your first day induction is designed to help you understand the essential information you need before you begin working in the nursery. This includes how to keep yourself safe, how to help keep children and others safe, and what is expected of you in your role.

There is a lot of information to take in on your first day, so please ask questions at any point if anything is unclear. Your manager, mentor and colleagues are here to support you and help you settle into the setting.

How to use this guide

Read and discuss each section with your manager or the senior person completing your induction.

Ask questions if anything is unclear.

Complete the Day 1 Induction Form.

Continue with your full induction programme after this first day induction has been completed.

⚠️ Important: This page is a guide for staff and managers. It should not be completed directly on the public website. Managers must complete a separate Day 1 Induction Form for each new starter and save the signed copy in the staff member’s staffing file.

Keeping Yourself Safe

• Provide Emergency Contact and next of kin details
• Be Introduced to first aiders and show the location of first aid kits
• Discuss the fire evacuation procedure
• Explain signing in and out on timesheet and Famly
• Identify the health and safety officer and how to report health and safety issues
• Discuss manual handling and safe lifting. Training to be completed in first week prior to any manual handling taking place.
• Safeguarding yourself- know where to find safeguarding policies and who to report to with a concern.
• Introduce wellbeing champion
• Read and sign Paint Pots Code of Conduct in first week.
